This edition features the exact same content as the traditional text in a convenient, three-hole- punched, loose-leaf version. Books à la Carte also offer a great value—this format costs significantly less than a new textbook.Drawing on their decades of teaching experience, William Briggs and Lyle Cochran have created a calculus text that carries the teacher’s voice beyond the classroom. That voice–evident in the narrative, the figures, and the questions interspersed in the narrative–is a master teacher leading readers to deeper levels of understanding. The authors appeal to readers’ geometric intuition to introduce fundamental concepts and lay the foundation for the more rigorous development that follows. Comprehensive exercise sets have received praise for their creativity, quality, and scope.
This is the "first edition" of a book that professors are usually teaching out of the "second edition". I got the first edition to save money, with permission of my professor. The books are close enough to each other that I was able to get by nicely. The "My Math Lab" software, which was mostly covered by a book scholarship, includes a digital copy of the "Second Edition", so I could have gotten by without a print copy of the book, but I enjoyed having a copy of the book to take with me to restaurants to read while eating by myself.Good book, great explanations, but be sure you do the sample problems.
